We often talk about the “eyes being the windows to the soul.” As Christian women, we want those windows to reflect the peace, warmth, and light of the Holy Spirit.

For years, my makeup bag was filled with the standard “Jet Black” mascaras. While there’s a time and place for a bold look, I’ve recently been seeking a more modest, softened approach to my daily routine—something that enhances what God gave me without looking “heavy.” I’ve been looking for something I just can just apply-and-go without having the ‘burden’ of applying a full face of makeup.

That’s when I discovered burgundy mascara. I think this mascara might be the key to me coming back into a prettier version of me, presented at a higher level to the Lord!

The Beauty of Subtlety

If you’ve never tried a coloured mascara, “burgundy” might sound intimidating. It did to me until I saw someone applying it on Pinterest. As you will see from my (rather raw) photos, on the lashes, it doesn’t actually look purple or red. Instead, it creates a deep, chocolatey warmth that is much softer than black.

Why I’ve fallen in love with it:

  • The “Natural” Factor: In the sunlight, it seems to give a subtle glow that could make my eyes look brighter and more “awake” for morning service or coffee dates with sisters in faith.
  • Modesty in Makeup: It adheres to a “less is more” philosophy. It defines the lashes beautifully while maintaining a soft, approachable look.
  • Complements Everything: It is going to pairs perfectly with the neutral tones, creams, and floral prints that many of us love in our modest wardrobes, as well as the more casual, and darker clothing that some of us wear because, well, it’s just easier!

My Top Pick: L’Oréal Paris Burgundy Mascara

I recently purchased this specific mascara from Amazon, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results. At first as I applied it to one eye, I thought it was going to be really clumpy but was surprised to see how those clumps easily brushed out with the wand. I think all new mascara can be a bit clumpy as it’s so fresh. In my experience the more I use a mascara, the less clumpy it gets as the air gets to it; use by use. Look at the picture below, I am amazed at the instant transforming effect!

Just by applying L’Oréal Paris Burgundy Mascara to one eye, and without any other make up on at all, my eye looks instantly brighter.

Refining Our Temple

Taking care of our appearance isn’t about vanity; it’s about presenting ourselves with dignity and grace as “His Creation.”

I am in recovery from trauma, marital breakdown, and neurological dysfunction in the form of Narcolepsy. Wearing make up has been at the bottom of my list of priorities because, well honestly, I find applying it (and removing it) tiresome these days.

I have freckled light skin, and barely visible eyebrows; wearing black mascara without foundation and a full face of artistry really looks terrible. Most of the time I do not wear make up because I haven’t had the energy, desire or need to spend up to an hour beautifying myself each day like I did in my 20’s and 30’s. I believe I have discovered a mascara that I will be able to wear, daily even before I am restored or in a place to do the rest of my face.

Ready to Go with Just Mascara.

I am so happy with this product. I honestly think it is suitable to just apply as is, even when we don’t have time to apply other make up!
